Are we Closer to a Skype plug-in for Facebook or Twitter? (The Market)

A fanciful take on yesterday’s news that Ebay is selling 65% of Skype for $1.9 billion: Could we soon see a Skype plug-in for Facebook or Twitter?

The connection of course is Marc Andreessen – that friend of early stage technology, investor in Twitter and board member of Facebook.  Now, through the newly minted Andreesen Horowitz Ventures, he joins a consortium of other investors who paid over $2 billion to acquire Skype from EBay.  From the start, Ebay’s acquisition of Skype was met with mixed feelings – the blogosphere was particularly skeptical about the impact of the merger, and in retrospect the critics have been proved right. Assuming the synergies are right, could the scenario be different in the app-driven world of social networking?  Stay tuned.
